Abstract
Eight plant species are known to be natural hosts of Sphaerotheca fuliginea(Schlecht. ex Fr.) Poll. in Korea. The authors found ten additional host plant species of S. fuliginca at Suweon campus of Seoul National University. They are Lactuca indica var. laciniata(O. Kuntze) Hara, Taraxacum platycarpum H. Dahlst., T. ohwianum Kitamura, T. coreanum Nakai, T. officinale Weber, Acalypha australis L., Cosmos bipinnatus Cav., Calendnla arvensis L., Coreopsis tinctoria Nutt., and C. lanceolata L. The morphological characteristics of the imperfect state as well as the perfect state of S. fuliginea were examined. Conidia were ellipsoidal to oval measuring 25¡32¡¿14¡19§. They were characterized by their conspicuous fibrosin bodies. No microconidia production were observed. Conidiophores produced conidia in chains. Conidiophores were moderately long anal slightly swollen at the basal parts. Appressoria were n.ot conspicuous but unlobed indistinct.
